How does Avalon compare to Viking?

Both lines have a lot in common as far as river cruising. They both operate in Europe's major rivers as well as in Asia. They are both considered moderately priced. Viking is the largest river cruise line with over 70 ships versus a fleet of 19 with Avalon. Viking having more fleets mean more available dates/sailings. Avalon is owned by Globus that also specializes in land tours so they can provide a host of options for pre and post cruise excursions. Viking's expertise will be mainly on river cruising.
