Some of the top activities Costa Rica has to offer...
You want to visit Costa Rica! Awesome, we can help get you there. But one of the questions we’ll ask in helping you do so is what you’d like to see and do there. Relax? Explore nature? Seek adventure? All the above and more? Probably. There is just so much available, we’ll need to have a serious discussion on what your priorities are. To help we’ve put together a list of eight of the best activities to do during your visit. After reading let us know what’s on the top of yours!
8 Great Activities Costa Rica Has To Offer
1. Hiking – An activity that likely is top of mind when you think of Costa Rica and there certainly is no shortage of places to do so. Volcanoes, beaches, cloud forests – the choice is yours. Once that’s settled, think about the level of difficulty you’re comfortable with. These two things will help in the best recommendation. Additionally, it is suggested you consider guided hikes. Your expert leader will be able to provide general assistance and a trained eye to spot wildlife.
2. Surfing – Surfers from around the world frequent Costa Rica year-round because of its warm waters and waves. Choose your coast – Pacific or Caribbean, select your level of experience – beginner, intermediate, or advanced. We can even make some recommendations. If you’re in need of a lesson, they’re typically easy to find, even just by stepping foot on some beaches!
3. Snorkeling and Scuba – Wildlife sightings aren’t limited to land. There are 7,000+ marine species that can be found in Costa Rica’s surrounding waters. So, it is no surprise that it is on the top of the list for water activities. If you’re a snorkeler, think about if you’d like to do so by boat or shore. If a diver, we can help recommend dive sites. Just let us know your level of experience.
4. Whitewater Rafting – Costa Rica provides a stunning background for this adventure. There are a few areas that would be recommended if this is something you’d like to do. Beginner or advanced, let us know what intensity of rapids you’re comfortable with, and we can point you in the right direction. If the kiddos are up for the challenge, there are some options that are suitable for them too. It’s a great family activity!
5. Visit Waterfalls – Some of the most picturesque sights in Costa Rica can be found at its numerous waterfalls. After all, there’s something so magical about water cascading over a cliff to the pools below. There are plenty of options to choose from, just keep in mind a few things. Some falls will require a hike to access, entrance fees will vary, and some allow swimming while others do not. Also consider a guided tour if you won’t have access to a rental car during your stay.
6. Zip Lining – If you’ve Googled “excursions in Costa Rica” you’ve likely seen a picture of someone effortlessly flying over green canopy, rivers, and cliffs. It’s a very popular activity that can be found all over the country. You should expect a safety demo and a short hike. Then you’ll glide line by line, each getting a little longer than the one before. If you’re an adrenaline seeker this is a must do! If not, we wouldn’t recommend it. Do not invest money in something if you’re not 100% comfortable with.
7. Bird Watching – It isn’t unusual for people to travel to Costa Rica for this very reason. Some enthusiasts even build a whole itinerary around this activity. There is 900+ species and most often seen will likely be toucans, macaws, and hummingbirds. Because the country is so eco-diverse, make a couple of watching stops. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!
8. Yoga – Yes, you read that right! Costa Rica is indeed a haven for yoga lovers. You could see or take a class quite literally anywhere – a resort, beach, volcano, or rainforest. If you’re a beginner, give it a try at least once. If you’re a wellness enthusiast and it’s your reason for travel, it belongs on your list. Think wellness retreat, group trip for your studio, location for instructor training or continuing education.
There you have it, some of the best that Costa Rica has to offer! Of course, there’s a ton more that isn’t listed, so if you have any questions let us know. If you’re ready to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer, please feel free to reach out!

Sailing the Seas in Style: Exploring Windstar Cruises
There's something magical about traveling on a yacht that larger cruise ships simply can't replicate. The intimate atmosphere, the ability to access hidden ports, and the feeling of exclusivity create an experience that feels worlds away from conventional cruising. This is exactly what Windstar Cruises promises - a 180° from ordinary experience that could completely change your perspective on sea travel.
Small Ships, Big Experiences
What immediately sets Windstar apart is their fleet of small, elegant vessels. With under 350 guests per ship, Windstar's classic sailing yachts and all-suite motor yachts provide an experience that feels personal and uncrowded. This smaller size isn't just about comfort - it's about access. These vessels can navigate into tiny harbors and hidden coves that massive cruise ships could never dream of entering.
On a Windstar journey, guests can dock right in the heart of coastal towns, allowing you to simply step off the yacht and immediately immerse yourself in local culture. No tender boats, no long bus rides from industrial ports - just direct access to the destination's soul.
The Windstar Difference
What truly distinguishes a Windstar cruise is their attention to detail and commitment to creating memorable moments:
The Signature Sail Away: There's something special about departing port with the sails unfurling while music plays and the crew provides champagne. It's theatrical, emotional, and the perfect way to bid farewell to each destination.
Open Bridge Experience: Unlike most cruise lines, Windstar invites guests to visit the bridge and chat with the officers about navigation - a rare opportunity for those fascinated by the technical aspects of sailing.
Signature Onboard Barbecue: Weather permitting, the crew transforms the deck into an outdoor restaurant for an al fresco dining experience under the stars.
Water Sports Platform: When anchored in calm bays, the ship's marina opens, giving guests complimentary access to kayaks, paddleboards, and water toys - turning the ocean into your personal playground.
Elevated Dining Without Pretense
The culinary experience aboard Windstar deserves special mention. With open seating and no reservation fees, dining feels relaxed yet refined. Fresh ingredients, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and attentive service create memorable meals without the formality that can make dining on larger ships feel stiff.
What's impressive is how the culinary team incorporates local flavors from ports of call. In the Mediterranean, olive oils and herbs from the morning's market might appear at dinner. In the Caribbean, fresh-caught seafood becomes the centerpiece of evening specials.
Destinations That Inspire
Windstar's itineraries are crafted for travelers seeking deeper connections with destinations. Their routes through the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Caribbean, French Polynesia, and beyond are designed to balance iconic locations with hidden gems.
In Tahiti, for example, their 'Dreams of Tahiti' voyage doesn't just visit Bora Bora - it allows extended time to truly experience its beauty. In Europe, the ability to cruise through the narrow Corinth Canal in Greece or dock in the heart of Venice creates experiences that larger ships simply cannot offer.
The Personal Touch
Perhaps most appealing is the crew-to-guest ratio that allows for genuinely personalized service. By the second day, bartenders remember your preferred drink, dining staff know your name, and the captain might greet you personally during the open bridge hours.
This isn't manufactured friendliness - it's the natural outcome of a smaller ship where crew members serve fewer guests and have time to create authentic connections.
For North Carolina Residents: A Special Opportunity
If you're a North Carolina resident, here's exciting news. Windstar is currently offering residents of select states, including North Carolina, up to 35% savings on select voyages through December 2025. This resident traveler promotion applies to incredible journeys throughout the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Caribbean, and those dream-worthy Tahitian escapes to Bora Bora.
The offer includes voyages on all their ships - from the iconic sailing yacht Wind Surf to the all-suite Star Legend, Star Pride, and Star Breeze. With fares starting from just $1,558 per person (based on double occupancy), this is an exceptional opportunity to experience luxury small-ship cruising at a significant discount.
What's always included: open dining with no reservation fees, non-alcoholic beverages, beautifully appointed ocean-view accommodations, plush bathrobes and slippers, access to the water sports platform, and those magical sail away experiences.
Plus, for just $99 per person per day, you can upgrade to all-inclusive pricing that covers unlimited select alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi, and all gratuities - removing any worry about mounting onboard expenses.
This resident discount might be just the nudge needed to book that dream voyage. Remember, this offer requires proof of North Carolina residency, so have your address verification ready when booking. These special rates won't last forever, and the most popular itineraries are likely to fill quickly.
Whether you're dreaming of sailing through the Greek islands, exploring the fjords of Norway, or experiencing the paradise of French Polynesia, Windstar offers a cruising experience that promises to be truly 180 degrees from ordinary.

Package Additions: Some resorts offer enhanced packages that include airport transfers, premium drinks, or spa credits—evaluate if these add-ons are worth the price.
Length of Stay: 4-5 nights is typically the sweet spot for an all-inclusive stay before dining options start to feel repetitive.
Making the Most of Your Stay
Arrive Early, Leave Late: Even if your room isn't ready, you can start using resort facilities immediately upon arrival. Similarly, you can continue using amenities after checkout.
Dining Strategies: - Make Reservations Early: Book specialty restaurants immediately upon arrival—they fill quickly, especially for prime dinner times. - Room Service: Many guests overlook the included room service—perfect for a lazy breakfast or late-night snack. - Timing Matters: Buffets are freshest within the first hour of opening.

How to Handle Tipping
Most all-inclusives include gratuities in the package price, but additional tipping can significantly enhance your service:

Resort Etiquette
Chair Saving: Most resorts have policies against reserving pool/beach chairs for extended periods. Respect these rules.
Dress Codes: Many specialty restaurants require closed-toe shoes for men and prohibit swimwear at dinner.
Reservation No-Shows: Cancel any reservations you can't keep—others may be waiting for those spots.
Noise Consideration: Be mindful of noise levels in room corridors, especially late at night.
Venturing Beyond the Resort
While the appeal of an all-inclusive is having everything at your fingertips, don't miss these worthy excursions:
Half-Day Adventures (Won't Miss Many Resort Meals): - Isla Mujeres catamaran trip - Cenote swimming - Shopping excursion to Playa del Carmen
Worthwhile Full-Day Trips: - Chichen Itza (UNESCO World Heritage site) - Xcaret Park - Tulum ruins combined with a beach club
Health and Safety
Sun Protection: The Caribbean sun is stronger than you might expect. Reapply sunscreen frequently.
Pace Yourself: With unlimited alcohol, moderation is key to enjoying your entire vacation.
Stay Hydrated: Alternate alcoholic beverages with water, especially during hot days.
Emergency Preparedness: Locate the resort medical station upon arrival. Many premium resorts have on-site medical staff.
Packing Specifically for All-Inclusives
Beyond standard beach vacation items, consider: - Multiple swimsuits (for alternating days) - Dressy outfits for specialty restaurants - Insulated tumbler for drinks - Cash in small denominations for tipping - Anti-chafing products for active days in the heat - Over-the-counter remedies for common vacation ailments
Making Memories Last
Resort Photo Services: Many resorts offer complimentary photo sessions—take advantage, but don't feel obligated to purchase.
Going Above and Beyond: For special occasions, contact the resort in advance. Many offer complimentary room decorations, cake, or sparkling wine for celebrations.
Your first all-inclusive experience in Cancun promises to be a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. By knowing what to expect and how to maximize the included amenities, you'll ensure your investment delivers exceptional value and memories to last a lifetime. ¡Salud!
