2. It is the most bio-diverse country in the world with over 900,000 species of wildlife, 900 of them are birds. You're likely to catch a sighting in natural habitats, national parks, and volcanic areas.
3. Costa Rica's national anthem is played on every radio station daily at 7am.
4. It's the hummingbird capital of the world! There are over 50 species that call Costa Rica home.
5. Costa Rica is Spanish and translates to “rich coast.” Why? It's said that the country's founder, Christopher Columbus, believed the area was filled with precious metals.
Some of the top activities Costa Rica has to offer...
You want to visit Costa Rica! Awesome, we can help get you there. But one of the questions we’ll ask in helping you do so is what you’d like to see and do there. Relax? Explore nature? Seek adventure? All the above and more? Probably. There is just so much available, we’ll need to have a serious discussion on what your priorities are. To help we’ve put together a list of eight of the best activities to do during your visit. After reading let us know what’s on the top of yours!
8 Great Activities Costa Rica Has To Offer
1. Hiking – An activity that likely is top of mind when you think of Costa Rica and there certainly is no shortage of places to do so. Volcanoes, beaches, cloud forests – the choice is yours. Once that’s settled, think about the level of difficulty you’re comfortable with. These two things will help in the best recommendation. Additionally, it is suggested you consider guided hikes. Your expert leader will be able to provide general assistance and a trained eye to spot wildlife.
2. Surfing – Surfers from around the world frequent Costa Rica year-round because of its warm waters and waves. Choose your coast – Pacific or Caribbean, select your level of experience – beginner, intermediate, or advanced. We can even make some recommendations. If you’re in need of a lesson, they’re typically easy to find, even just by stepping foot on some beaches!
3. Snorkeling and Scuba – Wildlife sightings aren’t limited to land. There are 7,000+ marine species that can be found in Costa Rica’s surrounding waters. So, it is no surprise that it is on the top of the list for water activities. If you’re a snorkeler, think about if you’d like to do so by boat or shore. If a diver, we can help recommend dive sites. Just let us know your level of experience.
4. Whitewater Rafting – Costa Rica provides a stunning background for this adventure. There are a few areas that would be recommended if this is something you’d like to do. Beginner or advanced, let us know what intensity of rapids you’re comfortable with, and we can point you in the right direction. If the kiddos are up for the challenge, there are some options that are suitable for them too. It’s a great family activity!
5. Visit Waterfalls – Some of the most picturesque sights in Costa Rica can be found at its numerous waterfalls. After all, there’s something so magical about water cascading over a cliff to the pools below. There are plenty of options to choose from, just keep in mind a few things. Some falls will require a hike to access, entrance fees will vary, and some allow swimming while others do not. Also consider a guided tour if you won’t have access to a rental car during your stay.
6. Zip Lining – If you’ve Googled “excursions in Costa Rica” you’ve likely seen a picture of someone effortlessly flying over green canopy, rivers, and cliffs. It’s a very popular activity that can be found all over the country. You should expect a safety demo and a short hike. Then you’ll glide line by line, each getting a little longer than the one before. If you’re an adrenaline seeker this is a must do! If not, we wouldn’t recommend it. Do not invest money in something if you’re not 100% comfortable with.
7. Bird Watching – It isn’t unusual for people to travel to Costa Rica for this very reason. Some enthusiasts even build a whole itinerary around this activity. There is 900+ species and most often seen will likely be toucans, macaws, and hummingbirds. Because the country is so eco-diverse, make a couple of watching stops. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!
8. Yoga – Yes, you read that right! Costa Rica is indeed a haven for yoga lovers. You could see or take a class quite literally anywhere – a resort, beach, volcano, or rainforest. If you’re a beginner, give it a try at least once. If you’re a wellness enthusiast and it’s your reason for travel, it belongs on your list. Think wellness retreat, group trip for your studio, location for instructor training or continuing education.
There you have it, some of the best that Costa Rica has to offer! Of course, there’s a ton more that isn’t listed, so if you have any questions let us know. If you’re ready to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer, please feel free to reach out!

Coastal Sea Kayaking Paddle your way around the Manuel Antonio coastline on this active kayaking tour. Beginning at the port of Quepos, you will start your adventure by paddling south. From a vantage point only possible in kayaks, you’ll catch awe-inspiring glimpses of Manuel Antonio’s breathtaking cliffs as we follow along the coastline. Depending on the tide, you may stop off for a snack at a secluded beach. Then, paddle close to tropical rock formations, where shorebirds are known to nest. This fun half-day on the water is a great way to explore the area and get moving!
Rainmaker Reserve Hike Located about 30 minutes from Manuel Antonio, this private rainforest reserve is a great place to experience local wildlife, like birds, butterflies, frogs, and lizards. After this, you'll have a chance to navigate the canopy bridge system and experience the rainforest from an elevated perspective.

Walt Disney World just released several new promotions that can help families save on 2026 Summer and early Fall vacations. From free dining to discounted resort stays and a new ticket offer, there are several ways to make a Disney trip more affordable depending on your travel dates.
Let’s break down the new promotions that were released today for Walt Disney World Resort.
Free Disney Dining Plan Offer
The Free Dining Plan promotion is now available to everyone for select arrival dates.
Eligible arrival windows include:
• June 28 through September 3
• October 19 through October 31
• December 6 through December 21
Guests who book a minimum four-night, four-day Walt Disney World vacation package with Park Hopper tickets can receive a complimentary dining plan.
The type of dining plan depends on where you stay:
• Guests staying at Value and Moderate Resorts receive the Quick-Service Dining Plan
• Guests staying at Deluxe Resorts receive the Disney Dining Plan
This offer can be a great value for families who plan to enjoy several meals around the parks and resorts during their stay and already plan to add Park Hopper tickets to their package.
Save Up to 30% on Disney Resort Hotels
Disney also released a room-only discount of up to 30% off Disney Resort hotels for late summer and early fall stays.
This promotion is valid for stays July 30 through October 3, with the largest savings applying to stays of five nights or longer. Additional savings may also be available for shorter stays.
Four-Day, Four-Park Magic Ticket
Another promotion available this year is the Four-Day, Four-Park Magic Ticket.
This special ticket allows guests to visit each of the four Walt Disney World theme parks one time, starting from $109 per day, plus tax
The ticket is valid for visits May 26 through October 3 and can be a great option for guests who plan to experience one day in each park.
Additional Discounts
Additional savings for Florida residents and Walt Disney World Annual Pass holders are also available this summer.
Maximizing the Value of Disney Promotions
Sometimes the best promotion for a trip depends on several factors, including travel dates, resort preferences, and ticket types. In some situations, there are ways to strategically utilize more than one promotion to maximize savings.
Many of these promotional dates also overlap with Disney’s complimentary water park admission on check-in day, which is available for Disney Resort guests May 26 through September 8. This can add even more value to a Walt Disney World vacation.
Planning Your Walt Disney World Vacation
One of my favorite things as a travel advisor is helping families determine which promotion will provide the best value for their specific trip. With several offers available at the same time, a little strategy can often go a long way in maximizing savings.
If you are thinking about planning a Walt Disney World vacation, I would love to help you explore the available options and find the promotion that works best for your travel dates.
One of the most anticipated promotions at Walt Disney World has officially returned. The Free Dining offer for 2026 has been released, giving guests the opportunity to add a Disney dining plan to their vacation package at no additional cost.
If you have been thinking about planning a Walt Disney World vacation this year, this can be a fantastic opportunity to save.
Disney’s Free Dining promotion is one of the most popular offers released each year, and many guests begin searching for it months in advance.
Historically, Disney has released Free Dining promotions in the spring for travel later that same year, often covering portions of summer, fall, and early holiday travel dates.
While the exact timing can vary from year to year, Disney has released the promotion between late March and early April for the general public in recent years.
For 2026, the offer first launched with early access for Disney Visa Cardmembers, which is available through March 11, 2026. Based on the wording of Disney’s announcement, it appears likely that the promotion may open to the general public on March 12, 2026, although Disney has not officially confirmed this yet.
Because this promotion is so popular and availability can be limited at certain resorts, many families choose to book their Walt Disney World vacation first and then apply the promotion once it becomes available. (I do this for my guests every day a new promotion is released- those whose packages qualify don’t have to lift a finger and receive their “promotion applied” email from me that morning!)
This allows them to secure their preferred Disney Resort and room category before the most popular options begin to sell out!
Walt Disney World Free Dining Offer Details
Guests can receive a free dining plan when booking a qualifying Walt Disney World vacation package that includes:
• A minimum four night stay at a select Disney Resorts Collection hotel
• Four day theme park tickets with the Park Hopper option
This promotion is valid for arrivals on select nights:
June 28 through October 3, 2026
October 19 through October 31, 2026
December 6 through December 21, 2026
The dining plan guests receive depends on the Disney Resort category they choose.
Guests staying at Disney Value Resorts or Moderate Resorts will receive the Quick Service Dining Plan.
Guests staying at participating Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villa Resorts will receive the Disney Dining Plan.
Because the type of dining plan varies depending on the resort category, the overall value of this promotion can look very different depending on where you stay. If you are still deciding which resort category might be the best fit for your family, you can also read my guide comparing Disney Value Resorts vs Deluxe Resorts at Walt Disney World.
Why Promotions Matter When Planning a Disney Vacation
One of the most important parts of my job as a travel advisor is making sure my guests are getting the best available promotion for their trip.
Even small savings can add up quickly on a Walt Disney World vacation. Saving even twenty dollars per day can mean extra snacks around the parks, another Lightning Lane selection, or an extra piece of the souvenir budget for the kids.
Disney often releases multiple promotions that overlap for the same travel dates. That means there is not always one obvious best deal for every family.
Sometimes free dining is the best value. Other times a room discount may provide greater savings depending on how your family plans to vacation.
Knowing how to compare these offers and calculate the true value of each option can take some time, but it is one of the things I enjoy most about helping families plan their trips.
Who the Disney Free Dining Offer Is Best For
Free dining is not always the best promotion for every guest, but it can be an excellent value for the right travel style.
This offer is typically best for families who:
• Have two or more guests age 10 and older in the room
• Are planning four day or longer park tickets
• Are already planning to add the Park Hopper option
• Were planning to purchase the Disney Dining Plan
In 2026, Disney is also offering free dining plans for children ages 3 to 9 all year when families purchase a dining plan with their package.
Because of this, the free dining promotion can be an especially strong value for families with multiple adults or guests age 10 and older in the room, since the promotion provides dining plans for everyone on the reservation.
If you were already planning to add the dining plan and Park Hopper tickets to your trip, this promotion can often provide excellent savings.
When a Room Discount May Be Better Than Disney Free Dining
There are situations where a different promotion may actually provide greater savings.
For example, if your family:
• Plans to purchase base tickets instead of Park Hopper tickets
• Was not planning to add a dining plan
• Has fewer adults in the room
In these situations, a room discount promotion may provide better overall value.
That is why comparing the available offers carefully is so important.
Should you book a Disney vacation package now or wait if you are not a Disney Visa cardholder?
Because this promotion may open to the general public soon, many families choose to book their Walt Disney World vacation first and then apply the promotion once it becomes available. This allows them to secure their preferred resort and travel dates while still taking advantage of the offer if it becomes available. Disney reservations can be modified to apply a promotion later, which makes this a common strategy when guests are hoping to take advantage of offers like free dining.
The downside of booking prior to the promotion officially becoming available *if your are booking specifically to take advantage of the free dining promotion* is we do not know what room categories may be available when free dining opens to the general public. In that case, I do recommend starting the conversation now so we are prepared to book your package based on availability at that time.
How I Help Families Maximize Disney Promotions
One of the things I enjoy most about being a travel advisor who specializes in Disney vacations is helping families compare their options.
Rather than choosing a promotion simply because it sounds appealing, my goal is to help guests understand which offer truly provides the best value for their vacation.
Every family travels differently. The best promotion for one family may not be the best option for another.
As a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder and travel advisor who specialize in Disney vacations, I help families compare promotions like free dining and room discounts to make sure they are getting the best value for their trip.
My job is to run the numbers, compare the offers, and make sure the families I work with are getting the most out of their Walt Disney World vacation budget.
If a Walt Disney World vacation with free dining has been on your wish list, I would love to help you plan it.
Reach out any time and we can start planning your trip to make sure you are getting the best promotion available for your travel dates.
Frequently Asked Questions About Disney Free Dining
When will Disney Free Dining open to the public?
The offer is currently available to Disney Visa Cardmembers through March 11, 2026. Based on Disney’s announcement and the wording of the offer, it appears likely that the promotion may open to the general public on March 12, 2026, although Disney has not officially confirmed this yet.
Do all Disney Resorts receive the same dining plan?
No. Guests staying at Value and Moderate Resorts receive the Quick Service Dining Plan, while guests staying at participating Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villa Resorts receive the Disney Dining Plan.
Do you have to get Park Hopper tickets to qualify for Free Dining?
Yes. For this promotion, guests must purchase a minimum four day theme park ticket with the Park Hopper option as part of their vacation package.
Is Disney Free Dining always the best promotion?
Not always. In some cases, a room discount promotion may provide greater savings depending on the number of guests in the room, the type of tickets you plan to purchase, and whether you were already planning to add the dining plan.
Is Disney Free Dining worth it for every family?
Free dining can be an excellent value, especially for families with multiple adults or older children in the room who were already planning to purchase the dining plan. However, in some situations a room discount may provide better overall savings. Comparing promotions is the best way to determine which option works best for your family.
Looking for an honest Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside review for families? Here is what you need to know about room options, fifth sleeper availability, transportation, and whether this peaceful Moderate Resort is the right fit for your Walt Disney World vacation.
As a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder and Independent Travel Advisor with Vincent Vacations, I have stayed at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside multiple times over the years.
Choosing the right Walt Disney World resort shapes your entire vacation experience. For families looking for a peaceful, welcoming Moderate Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is often one of the best fits on property.
What Makes Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Different?
Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is a Moderate Resort at Walt Disney World, offering more space and comfort than the Value Resorts while remaining more budget-friendly than Deluxe options.
When comparing Port Orleans Riverside vs Value Resorts, here is what families notice immediately:
Larger rooms
Two queen beds instead of a full bed and fold-down table
More refined New Orleans theming
A quieter, calmer atmosphere
If your family prefers coming back to a relaxing resort after busy park days, Port Orleans Riverside delivers that slower pace beautifully.
One of the most unique features of Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is that it feels like two resorts in one.
Alligator Bayou at Port Orleans Riverside
Alligator Bayou has a rustic Louisiana feel with shaded pathways and a more tucked-away atmosphere.
Select rooms in Alligator Bayou offer a fifth sleeper option, making Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside one of the most affordable options for a family of five at Walt Disney World. Not every room sleeps five, so families specifically needing that fifth sleeper should ensure they book the correct room category.
For many larger families, this is a major advantage over Value Resorts.
Magnolia Bend at Port Orleans Riverside
Magnolia Bend includes mansion-style buildings: Oak Manor, Magnolia Terrace, Acadian House, and Parterre Place.
This section feels elegant and stately, inspired by classic Southern architecture.
Guests who love Port Orleans Riverside often have a strong preference between Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend. Some families prefer the rustic charm of the bayou, while others love the polished feel of the mansions.
That division is a reminder that resort choice is deeply personal.
Princess and the Frog Theming at Port Orleans Riverside
Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside features subtle Princess and the Frog touches throughout its standard rooms and decor, making it especially appealing for Tiana fans.
This Moderate Resort is also home to the Royal Guest Rooms, which feature princess-inspired details. These rooms are scheduled for refurbishment, and many families are excited to see what the updated theming will include.
This resort feels a bit like stepping right into The Princess and the Frog movie to me with the laid back New Orleans vibe and extra Princess touches
Pools, Activities, and Amenities at Port Orleans Riverside
Port Orleans Riverside offers more than just a place to sleep.
Resort amenities include:
A feature pool with a waterslide
Multiple quiet pools
Evening campfires and movies
Surrey bike rentals
Horse-drawn carriage rides
Catch-and-release fishing
Families planning a rest day will find plenty to enjoy at this Walt Disney World Moderate Resort.
The quick service dining at Port Orleans Riverside also offers strong variety, making it easy to accommodate different tastes within one family.
Boat Transportation to Disney Springs
One of the standout perks of Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is boat transportation to Disney Springs.
Instead of taking a bus, guests can enjoy a scenic riverboat ride. For families who enjoy dining or shopping at Disney Springs, this transportation option adds real value to their stay.
Understanding Transportation at Port Orleans Riverside
Because Port Orleans Riverside is more spread out than many Value Resorts, it has multiple internal bus stops.
Depending on your room location, transportation time to the parks may vary slightly. In my experience, buses are not significantly more crowded than other Walt Disney World resorts, though the final stop near the lobby can occasionally fill last.
This is one of the reasons I often encourage families to consider booking a Preferred Room at Port Orleans Riverside.
At many Disney resorts, standard rooms are perfectly fine. However, at Port Orleans Riverside, a Preferred Room places you closer to the lobby, quick service dining, and the main transportation hub.
For families planning early park mornings or frequent refillable mug stops, that proximity makes a noticeable difference.
Is Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Worth It?
For families deciding between a Value Resort and a Moderate Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside offers:
Larger rooms
Two queen beds
Fifth sleeper options for select rooms
A quieter atmosphere
New Orleans theming
Unique activities and amenities
If your family values calm evenings, scenic walking paths, and a relaxed resort environment, Port Orleans Riverside may be one of the best Moderate Resorts at Walt Disney World for you.
