Some of the top activities Costa Rica has to offer...
You want to visit Costa Rica! Awesome, we can help get you there. But one of the questions we’ll ask in helping you do so is what you’d like to see and do there. Relax? Explore nature? Seek adventure? All the above and more? Probably. There is just so much available, we’ll need to have a serious discussion on what your priorities are. To help we’ve put together a list of eight of the best activities to do during your visit. After reading let us know what’s on the top of yours!
8 Great Activities Costa Rica Has To Offer
1. Hiking – An activity that likely is top of mind when you think of Costa Rica and there certainly is no shortage of places to do so. Volcanoes, beaches, cloud forests – the choice is yours. Once that’s settled, think about the level of difficulty you’re comfortable with. These two things will help in the best recommendation. Additionally, it is suggested you consider guided hikes. Your expert leader will be able to provide general assistance and a trained eye to spot wildlife.
2. Surfing – Surfers from around the world frequent Costa Rica year-round because of its warm waters and waves. Choose your coast – Pacific or Caribbean, select your level of experience – beginner, intermediate, or advanced. We can even make some recommendations. If you’re in need of a lesson, they’re typically easy to find, even just by stepping foot on some beaches!
3. Snorkeling and Scuba – Wildlife sightings aren’t limited to land. There are 7,000+ marine species that can be found in Costa Rica’s surrounding waters. So, it is no surprise that it is on the top of the list for water activities. If you’re a snorkeler, think about if you’d like to do so by boat or shore. If a diver, we can help recommend dive sites. Just let us know your level of experience.
4. Whitewater Rafting – Costa Rica provides a stunning background for this adventure. There are a few areas that would be recommended if this is something you’d like to do. Beginner or advanced, let us know what intensity of rapids you’re comfortable with, and we can point you in the right direction. If the kiddos are up for the challenge, there are some options that are suitable for them too. It’s a great family activity!
5. Visit Waterfalls – Some of the most picturesque sights in Costa Rica can be found at its numerous waterfalls. After all, there’s something so magical about water cascading over a cliff to the pools below. There are plenty of options to choose from, just keep in mind a few things. Some falls will require a hike to access, entrance fees will vary, and some allow swimming while others do not. Also consider a guided tour if you won’t have access to a rental car during your stay.
6. Zip Lining – If you’ve Googled “excursions in Costa Rica” you’ve likely seen a picture of someone effortlessly flying over green canopy, rivers, and cliffs. It’s a very popular activity that can be found all over the country. You should expect a safety demo and a short hike. Then you’ll glide line by line, each getting a little longer than the one before. If you’re an adrenaline seeker this is a must do! If not, we wouldn’t recommend it. Do not invest money in something if you’re not 100% comfortable with.
7. Bird Watching – It isn’t unusual for people to travel to Costa Rica for this very reason. Some enthusiasts even build a whole itinerary around this activity. There is 900+ species and most often seen will likely be toucans, macaws, and hummingbirds. Because the country is so eco-diverse, make a couple of watching stops. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!
8. Yoga – Yes, you read that right! Costa Rica is indeed a haven for yoga lovers. You could see or take a class quite literally anywhere – a resort, beach, volcano, or rainforest. If you’re a beginner, give it a try at least once. If you’re a wellness enthusiast and it’s your reason for travel, it belongs on your list. Think wellness retreat, group trip for your studio, location for instructor training or continuing education.
There you have it, some of the best that Costa Rica has to offer! Of course, there’s a ton more that isn’t listed, so if you have any questions let us know. If you’re ready to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer, please feel free to reach out!

In today’s world, booking a vacation has never been easier with the abundance of online tools and booking sites. But with so many options, the process can often feel overwhelming—deciding on the best destination, navigating confusing flight options, comparing hotel prices, and trying to find the perfect experiences can be time-consuming and stressful. While it may seem like a good idea to book everything yourself, there are several key reasons why using a travel agent can save you time, money, and stress, while ensuring you have the best travel experience possible.
Here’s why you should consider using a travel agent for your next trip:
1. Expert Advice and Personalized Recommendations
Travel agents are experts in the field of travel, with extensive knowledge about destinations, accommodations, activities, and the latest trends. They’ve likely visited the places you’re considering or have access to firsthand accounts from other travelers. Whether you’re looking for a quiet beach getaway, a family-friendly vacation, or a luxury escape, a travel agent can offer personalized recommendations based on your specific needs, preferences, and budget.
For example, you might not know the difference between an all-inclusive resort and a boutique hotel in a specific destination, but a travel agent does. They can help you choose the right type of accommodation and experiences that best suit your style and expectations, taking the guesswork out of the equation.
2. Time Savings
Planning a trip can take hours of research, comparing prices, reading reviews, and organizing all the logistics. A travel agent does all the heavy lifting for you. They can provide you with a curated list of options that meet your criteria, saving you countless hours that you could spend doing something you enjoy, instead of sifting through endless websites.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a multi-country tour, a travel agent can efficiently put together all the details in one place, from flights and accommodations to transportation and excursions, so you don’t have to spend days organizing it yourself.
3. Access to Exclusive Deals and Discounts
Travel agents often have access to exclusive deals that aren’t available to the general public. Because of their relationships with hotels, airlines, and tour operators, they can unlock special promotions, discounts, and perks like:
Room upgrades at hotels
Complimentary breakfast or spa credits
Early check-in/late check-out privileges
Private tours or excursions
They also know how to leverage these relationships to get better value for your money, so you may end up with more luxury for less cost compared to booking directly through online platforms.
4. Stress-Free Planning and Handling of Details
From ensuring you’ve got the correct visas to helping you find the most convenient flight connections, travel agents take care of the nitty-gritty details, which can be a headache for many travelers. They’ll help you avoid common pitfalls, such as booking a flight with multiple layovers or missing a connecting flight due to tight transfer times. They also handle tricky time zones, seasonal changes, and any sudden changes in travel restrictions.
Additionally, travel agents can help you plan multi-destination trips or complex itineraries, such as a round-the-world journey, with ease. They know the best routes, flight options, and can organize everything from local transportation to guided tours to make sure your trip flows seamlessly.
5. Expert Crisis Management and Support
When unexpected issues arise—like flight cancellations, lost luggage, or changes in weather conditions—a travel agent is your first line of defense. Instead of scrambling on the phone with airlines or hotel chains, your agent can handle the situation for you, using their expertise and industry connections to resolve problems quickly.
If a storm causes a delay, or a flight is overbooked, travel agents have the resources to rebook your flights or arrange alternate accommodations, saving you time and stress. In situations like this, having an experienced travel agent who can step in and solve the problem makes a huge difference in your overall travel experience.
6. Travel Insurance and Protection
Travel agents don’t just book your trip—they also help ensure that you’re protected throughout the journey. They can recommend and arrange the right type of travel insurance based on your trip’s needs, whether it’s for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, or lost luggage. While many travelers skip this step, having travel insurance is an important safety net, especially for international trips.
If anything goes wrong while you’re traveling, travel insurance can provide peace of mind, knowing you’ll be covered for unexpected expenses like medical bills, trip interruptions, or canceled flights.
7. VIP Treatment and Special Perks
One of the best reasons to use a travel agent is the VIP treatment you’ll often receive. Travel agents have access to special concierge services and can offer you priority booking, private transfers, and even early access to tickets for attractions. For example, if you’re heading to a popular destination like Paris or Rome, your agent might arrange special entry into museums without waiting in long lines, or secure reservations at highly sought-after restaurants.
They also often arrange personalized itineraries based on your interests, ensuring that you experience the best of the destination in the most efficient way possible. It’s like having a local guide and a concierge at your service, but without having to pay extra for these added services.
8. Stress-Free Group Travel Planning
Planning group travel—whether for a family reunion, a destination wedding, or a corporate retreat—can be especially overwhelming. Travel agents make organizing group trips much easier, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and gets the arrangements that fit their needs. From booking flights for a large group to negotiating discounts on hotel rooms or group tours, a travel agent handles the logistics, freeing you from the headache of managing multiple reservations.
They can also handle things like special dietary needs, room assignments, and activity scheduling to ensure that the group enjoys a smooth, hassle-free experience.
9. Local Insights and Hidden Gems
Many travel agents have visited the destinations they recommend, which means they can provide you with insider tips on what to see and do beyond the usual tourist attractions. They know the best local restaurants, hidden gems, and unique experiences that aren’t always found in guidebooks or online reviews.
Whether you’re interested in cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, or trying out local cuisine, your travel agent can offer recommendations tailored to your interests that go far beyond the typical tourist spots.
10. Peace of Mind and a More Enjoyable Trip
Above all, using a travel agent allows you to enjoy your trip without worrying about the logistics. When everything is organized for you, you can focus on what truly matters: making memories. Knowing that an expert has handled the details, you can relax and embrace the adventure, knowing that you’re in good hands every step of the way.
In Conclusion: Why You Should Consider Using a Travel Agent
While booking travel online can seem like a great option, it can also be time-consuming, frustrating, and overwhelming. A travel agent offers personalized, stress-free planning and access to exclusive deals, insider knowledge, and expert support throughout your journey.
Whether you're planning a short weekend getaway, a bucket-list vacation, or a complex multi-destination trip, a travel agent ensures that your travel experience is smooth, enjoyable, and unforgettable. And in the rare case that something doesn’t go according to plan, they’re there to handle it for you, giving you the peace of mind to truly enjoy your travels.
So, if you want to take the stress out of travel and maximize your vacation experience, consider reaching out to a travel agent—they’re your ticket to a hassle-free getaway.

Europe’s rail system is often regarded as one of the most efficient, extensive, and scenic in the world. Whether you’re planning to travel between cities, explore charming towns, or take in the breathtaking landscapes, trains provide an easy, comfortable, and eco-friendly way to get around. From high-speed routes to scenic regional trains, Europe’s rail network has something for everyone.
If you’re new to traveling by train in Europe, it might seem a bit daunting at first. But don’t worry! This guide will walk you through how the rail system works, how to plan your journey, and everything you need to know to navigate Europe’s trains like a pro.
1. The Basics of the European Rail System
The European rail network is made up of several national rail operators that connect not only cities within a country but also cross borders to neighboring countries. While each country has its own rail system and ticketing structure, there are a few common threads that unite them:
High-Speed Trains: These fast trains, like France’s TGV, Germany’s ICE, and Spain’s AVE, connect major cities and can reach speeds of up to 200 mph (320 km/h).
Regional Trains: These serve shorter distances and often have stops in small towns and villages.
Night Trains: For longer journeys, night trains provide an opportunity to sleep while traveling, making them a great option for overnight travel.
International Trains: Trains like the Eurostar (connecting the UK with France and Belgium) or the Thalys (connecting France, Belgium, and the Netherlands) connect cities across borders.
2. Types of Trains in Europe
Different types of trains cater to different needs and budgets. Here’s a breakdown of the most common types of trains you'll encounter:
High-Speed Trains (TGV, ICE, AVE, Eurostar): These trains are your go-to for fast travel between major cities. They offer comfortable seating, onboard services, and often have dedicated cars for quiet zones, business passengers, or families. High-speed trains are great for covering long distances quickly, such as Paris to Lyon, or Amsterdam to Berlin.
Intercity (IC) Trains: These trains are typically slower than high-speed ones but are still a convenient option for traveling between major cities. They often offer standard and first-class seating options, with basic amenities.
Regional Trains (RE, S-Bahn): These trains are slower and make more frequent stops, but they are great for exploring smaller towns or traveling within a region. Regional trains tend to be more affordable than high-speed options, and they provide a more local experience.
Night Trains (EuroNight, City Night Line): For longer trips, overnight trains allow you to sleep while you travel, saving both time and accommodation costs. Night trains are equipped with sleeper compartments, couchettes (shared sleeping cars), or regular seats. Popular routes include Vienna to Rome, Paris to Venice, or Berlin to Zurich.
Scenic Trains (Glacier Express, Bernina Express): Some trains are specifically designed for scenic journeys, offering panoramic windows and slow-paced routes through stunning landscapes, such as the Swiss Alps or the Norwegian fjords. These trains focus more on the journey than the destination!
3. Booking Your Tickets
Booking train tickets in Europe can be done in several ways. You can either book them in advance or buy them on the day of travel, but here are some tips on the best approach:
Online Booking
National Rail Websites: Many countries have their own official railway websites, such as SNCF (France), DB (Germany), Trenitalia (Italy), and Renfe (Spain). These websites often offer the most up-to-date schedules and ticket prices.
Rail Aggregator Sites: Websites like Trainline, Omio, or Rail Europe allow you to compare prices, schedules, and routes across multiple countries, which is especially helpful for international journeys.
Rail Passes: For tourists, purchasing a rail pass like the Eurail Pass (for non-Europeans) or Interrail Pass (for Europeans) can save money if you’re planning to take multiple trains over an extended period. These passes allow unlimited travel on participating trains within a certain time frame, but keep in mind that some trains (like high-speed and night trains) may require seat reservations, which can cost extra.
Buying Tickets at the Station
Ticket Machines and Counters: You can also purchase tickets directly at train stations via ticket machines or counters. Most stations in major cities have staff that can assist you in English.
Seat Reservations: While regional trains don’t require reservations, high-speed and international trains usually do. Make sure to check if your ticket includes a seat reservation or if you need to book one separately.
4. Train Stations in Europe
Train stations are generally well-equipped and easy to navigate. Major cities have large, busy stations with plenty of amenities like cafes, shops, baggage storage, and free Wi-Fi. Here’s what you need to know when you arrive:
Arrival at the Station: Arrive at least 30 minutes before your train departure, especially for high-speed or international trains. Look for your train’s platform number on the departure boards.
Tickets and Boarding: Some trains require you to validate your ticket before boarding, but many now use digital ticketing. Make sure your ticket has all the details, such as your departure time, train number, and seat number (if applicable).
Platform Access: Most stations have clear signage in English, so follow the signs to the right platform. If you’re unsure, ask the station staff for help.
5. The Travel Experience: What to Expect on European Trains
Once you're aboard, here's what to expect:
Comfortable Seats: Trains in Europe are known for their comfort, especially on high-speed services. Seats are often spacious, with plenty of legroom, power outlets, and folding tables.
Free Wi-Fi and Entertainment: Many long-distance trains offer free Wi-Fi and onboard entertainment. Some trains even have small cafeterias or dining cars where you can purchase snacks, drinks, or a full meal.
Quiet Zones and Family Areas: Many trains have designated quiet zones for those who want to relax or work, as well as family-friendly sections for those traveling with children.
Luggage: There’s usually plenty of space for luggage above or beside your seat. On high-speed trains, there might also be dedicated luggage compartments, and most trains allow for a reasonable amount of baggage without additional fees.
Food and Drinks: High-speed and long-distance trains often have dining cars where you can enjoy a meal or snack. You can also bring your own food, but be mindful of local rules regarding eating or drinking.
6. Traveling Across Borders
Traveling by train between European countries is simple and efficient. Some things to keep in mind:
Passport and Border Checks: If you're traveling between Schengen Area countries (like France to Germany or Italy to Switzerland), there are usually no passport checks. However, some routes (like from the UK to France via the Eurostar) will require passport control, so always have your passport handy.
Currency: If you’re traveling between countries that use different currencies (for example, from France to Switzerland), make sure to have the local currency for any on-board purchases.
7. Tips for a Smooth Rail Journey in Europe

The Mediterranean Sea has long been a symbol of beauty, culture, and history. Whether you're drawn to its sunny beaches, ancient ruins, or vibrant cities, a Mediterranean cruise offers a fantastic way to explore this iconic region. From the sparkling waters of the Aegean to the sun-drenched shores of Spain, a cruise around the Mediterranean provides an unmatched combination of luxury, convenience, and adventure. If you’re considering your next getaway, here’s why a Mediterranean cruise should be at the top of your list.
1. Explore Multiple Destinations in One Trip
One of the best reasons to choose a Mediterranean cruise is the ability to visit several destinations in a single vacation. Instead of spending hours on buses or trains traveling between cities, a cruise allows you to wake up in a new port each day, each offering something unique.
Western Mediterranean: Embark on a journey through Italy, Spain, and France, where you can explore the art and architecture of cities like Rome, Barcelona, and Nice.
Eastern Mediterranean: Head to Greece, Turkey, and Croatia for ancient ruins, charming coastal towns, and dramatic landscapes.
Adriatic & Ionian Seas: Stop by the stunning Croatian coast, with its UNESCO-listed cities like Dubrovnik, or venture to the islands of Greece and Italy for pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters.
A Mediterranean cruise lets you pack a wide range of cultural experiences, all in one trip. Whether you're into history, food, art, or simply lounging by the sea, the variety of ports and excursions available ensures there's something for everyone.
2. Experience a Blend of Cultures, History, and Art
The Mediterranean is one of the world’s richest regions when it comes to history and culture. Each port you visit brings its own blend of traditions, cuisine, and art, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in different cultures every day.
Ancient Ruins: From the Acropolis in Athens to the Roman Colosseum in Rome, you’ll have access to some of the world’s most famous archaeological sites. Imagine walking through Pompeii, standing in the same amphitheaters where gladiators once fought, or exploring the ancient city of Ephesus.
Art and Architecture: Whether it’s the Renaissance art in Florence, the Gaudi buildings in Barcelona, or the Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna, the Mediterranean is a treasure trove of art and architecture. A cruise allows you to visit multiple cities, each with its own unique artistic and architectural gems.
Rich Traditions: Mediterranean cultures are as diverse as they are rich. You’ll have the chance to sample local delicacies, experience lively festivals, and learn about centuries-old traditions—like the Greek love for dancing or the Italian passion for food.
Each destination on a Mediterranean cruise feels like stepping into a living museum, where you can experience firsthand the sights, sounds, and flavors of these ancient and vibrant cultures.
3. The Ideal Blend of Relaxation and Adventure
A Mediterranean cruise offers the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure. Whether you prefer to spend your days lounging by the pool or exploring hidden gems in charming coastal towns, there’s no shortage of activities to suit your pace.
Relaxation: Onboard your cruise ship, you’ll find luxurious amenities designed for pure relaxation. Most ships offer pools, spas, sun decks, and quiet lounges where you can unwind while enjoying stunning ocean views. The gentle Mediterranean breeze and the sun on your skin make for the ultimate laid-back vacation experience.
Adventure: For those seeking adventure, Mediterranean cruises offer plenty of opportunities to explore. Go hiking in the hills of Santorini, snorkel in the turquoise waters off the coast of Croatia, or take a guided bike tour through the streets of Florence. You can also take excursions to explore the surrounding islands or visit hidden caves and secluded beaches. The Mediterranean offers countless opportunities for exploration, both on land and at sea.
4. World-Class Cuisine and Wine
Food is one of the highlights of any Mediterranean cruise. The region is famous for its healthy, flavorful cuisine, which is often made with fresh, local ingredients. During your cruise, you’ll have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes that will tantalize your taste buds.
Italian Cuisine: Indulge in delicious pasta, wood-fired pizza, and fresh seafood while sipping on a glass of local wine. A visit to Italy is a food lover's paradise, and many cruises include Italian food-themed events onboard.
Greek Specialties: Savor dishes like moussaka, souvlaki, tzatziki, and baklava. Greek cuisine is known for its use of fresh vegetables, olive oil, and herbs, offering a perfect combination of flavors.
Spanish Tapas: Enjoy tapas bars in Barcelona and other Spanish ports, where you can sample small plates like paella, jamón ibérico, and chorizo.
Wine Lovers' Dream: The Mediterranean is home to some of the world’s best wine regions. Onboard, you can enjoy wine tastings, while excursions to places like the vineyards of Tuscany or the wineries of Santorini offer a deeper dive into the art of Mediterranean winemaking.
Whether you're enjoying gourmet meals onboard or dining at a local restaurant in one of the Mediterranean’s picturesque ports, you’ll never be short of delicious food and drink to savor.
5. Luxurious Ships with Top-Notch Amenities
Cruise ships in the Mediterranean are known for their modern, luxurious amenities. From gourmet dining options to state-of-the-art fitness centers and stunning pools, ships are designed with relaxation and entertainment in mind.
Entertainment: Most Mediterranean cruises offer a range of entertainment options, including Broadway-style shows, live music, comedy acts, and movie screenings under the stars.
Relaxation and Wellness: Many cruise lines offer world-class spas with massages, facials, and wellness treatments. Spend a day rejuvenating at sea with a hot stone massage or relax in a thermal suite while taking in panoramic views of the ocean.
Family-Friendly: Mediterranean cruises are also perfect for families. With kids’ clubs, family excursions, and dedicated pools, there’s plenty to keep the younger ones entertained while parents enjoy some downtime.
Whether you're cruising on a massive luxury liner or a smaller boutique ship, you'll find that the amenities onboard a Mediterranean cruise are designed to elevate your experience.
6. Easy Travel with No Packing and Unpacking
One of the biggest advantages of a Mediterranean cruise is the convenience it offers. Unlike traditional vacations where you have to pack and unpack multiple times, a cruise allows you to settle into your cabin for the duration of your trip. Your “hotel” travels with you, meaning you can visit multiple countries without ever needing to pack your bags again.
Not only does this eliminate the hassle of transportation between cities, but it also lets you explore each destination without the stress of finding new accommodations. You’ll enjoy seamless travel between ports, making it easier to take in more sights, activities, and cultures without wasting time.
7. Ideal for All Types of Travelers
Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, a family, or part of a group, a Mediterranean cruise caters to all types of travelers. For solo travelers, it’s a great way to meet new people and enjoy organized excursions. Couples can enjoy romantic evenings under the stars, while families will love the child-friendly activities and ports with a mix of historical, cultural, and fun-filled adventures. Group cruises can be tailored to specific interests, whether that’s a wine-tasting tour or a history-focused trip.
Conclusion: The Mediterranean Awaits
From the ancient ruins of Greece to the vibrant beaches of the Amalfi Coast, a Mediterranean cruise offers the perfect mix of history, culture, luxury, and adventure. With the ability to visit multiple countries in one trip, experience world-class cuisine, and enjoy top-tier amenities, it’s no wonder why the Mediterranean is one of the most popular cruise destinations in the world.
So, whether you're looking to immerse yourself in history, indulge in delicious food, or simply relax by the sea, a Mediterranean cruise offers a vacation experience like no other. Ready to set sail? The Mediterranean awaits!
